Test Total Alkalinity
Total alkalinity refers to the amount of alkaline material in your pool’s water and will impact the pH balance. Ideally, the total alkalinity should range from 80 to 120 ppm.
Test pH Balance
The pH level refers to how acidic or basic the water is, and should be within 1.0 to 14.0. The water is considered ‘acidic’ if the level is on the lower end, and ‘basic’ if the level is on the higher end of the spectrum. In order to keep the pool safe from any potential harm, it’s essential that the water’s pH levels are properly maintained.
Ideally, you want the pH level to be anywhere from 7.4 to 7.6.
Test Calcium Hardness
You may notice some white scaling near the water line if calcium starts to build up in your pool. Not only does this look unsightly, but it can also cause harm to the finishes of your pool and its equipment.
Ideally, your pool water’s calcium hardness level should be anywhere from 200 to 400 ppm. If it’s under or over this range, you should take steps to get it back into proper balance.
Shock Your Pool As Needed
